On 12 October 2026, Meta Superintelligence Labs released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, the first Meta models built to compete with the best from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. They follow the lightweight Muse Spark and the open-weight Muse Spark Open, and they are the first frontier releases since Meta reorganised its AI work under Alexandr Wang in August 2025. Unlike Meta's Llama-era models, these are closed: you use them through Meta's API or its coding app, not by downloading weights.
Wonder and Wonder Full: what's the difference?
Muse Wonder
API- Model ID
- muse-wonder-1.0
- Where
- Meta Model API and Muse Code
- Price
- $4 input, $0.20 cached input, $20 output per million tokens
- Pay per token, works with the OpenAI SDK
- Meta says performance is comparable to Wonder Full
The one developers and data teams can build on.
Muse Wonder Full
Subscription only- Where
- Muse Code, on the Power Usage and Maximum Usage plans
- Context
- 1M tokens
- Meta's most capable model; top scores in some third-party coding runs (DeepSWE, SWE-Marathon)
- Not available through the API
For people who code inside Meta's own app.
How it compares
Meta's own model card says both models score comparably to Claude Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra, and that Muse Wonder beats them on MemoryBench, a test of remembering and using information over time. Independent leaderboards put it firmly in the top group, though not on top.
Higher is better. Independent index, 19 October 2026. Muse Wonder Full is the subscription-only version.
Higher is better. Scores on 15 October 2026; Gemini 4 Argon's was preliminary. The bars start at 1,450 to show the gaps.
Price: the expensive end of the top tier
List prices in USD for standard-length prompts. Gemini 4 Argon's introductory price rises to $20 on 1 December 2026.
At $20 per million output tokens, Muse Wonder costs about twice as much as the models it ties with. TechCrunch put it roughly level with OpenAI's and Anthropic's most expensive tiers. Cached input at $0.20 helps for agents that resend the same long context. Unless its memory features clearly help your use case, the cheaper models in our October comparison give more for the money.
Active memory and long tasks
- Active memory
- Carries context across conversations and keeps goals, constraints and decisions available, instead of starting fresh each time.
- Active focus
- Tries other approaches when stuck, asks for clarification and checks in before important actions.
- Long agent tasks
- Plans multi-step work, calls tools in sequence and recovers from tool errors.
- Multimodal
- Reads screenshots, charts, documents, images and video. Check audio support before relying on it.
- Coding
- Multi-file refactors and debugging across large repositories, the focus of Muse Code.
The models were trained on Prometheus, Meta's gigawatt-scale cluster in New Albany, Ohio, which Meta described publicly this week. It connects hundreds of thousands of GPUs, with a target of around a million for future Muse training.
How to try it
Create a key at Meta's developer site, then point any OpenAI-compatible code at the Meta Model API.
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(base_url="<Meta Model API base URL from dev.meta.ai/docs>",
api_key="YOUR_META_KEY")
reply = client.chat.completions.create(
model="muse-wonder-1.0",
messages=[{"role": "user",
"content": "Explain this SQL query and suggest an index: ..."}],
)
print(reply.choices[0].message.content)Check your understanding
1/3How can developers use Muse Wonder Full?
The API offers Muse Wonder (muse-wonder-1.0); Full is subscription-only.
2/3What does Muse Wonder cost per million output tokens?
Input is $4 and cached input $0.20 per million tokens.
3/3What is Meta's main selling point for Muse Wonder?
Meta says it beats rivals on MemoryBench.
You got 0 out of 3.
